Why You Feel the Way You Do

You must open your mind to allow what is outside to come in (It Is How You Think). Only then will you know if what you hear is what you want to keep. Take the time you need and think along with me here. You will undoubtedly have to think in a way that is different from how you have before. What you have thought to be may not be that way at all. And what you have been taught to believe does not always look the same when you learn how to think your own thoughts. This, of course, many thought they already knew.

When I say to think a thought, I mean that thought and thinking are not always the same. A thought is just a thought until you think it. You cannot think of anything until you have a thought. And our thoughts are based on what we perceive with our five senses: smell, taste, touch, hearing, and sight.

Who would think the unthinkable?

A thought just is until it is not. Think of a thought as being inert, not doing a thing from when we have it until we think of what we want to do with it. The time between the two is quick. There is no way to measure it. We are yet to know when someone has a thought or what they are thinking. And there is a good reason we do not. Who would think the unthinkable? And do the undo-able.

What exists to us is all we know, but you must know there is more.

Thought is not only what we had. It is also what we have. You thought, and you have a thought. It is what we have thought and what we have to think. A thought cannot be forced. To try to do so is called thinking. Once we have a thought, we think it, or it moves to our memory. It will not be undone. It is the same as it is with life. The life we have lived cannot be changed; it is what it is, forever. Think about this. What exists to us is all we know, but you must know there is more.

Perception is the Foundation of Thought

Say you are strolling down a New York City sidewalk. As you look up from being distracted by your phone, you see that you and I are approaching each other, and in about five to ten seconds, we will be side by side—close enough to feel the breeze and “sniff each other’s scent” as we pass. You will have a thought based on your perception of me and others “like” me. From here on, your thinking process will begin and conclude in mere seconds in this order: You first will have a perception of me, and you then will think about what you perceive the situation or your reality to be: You will have a thought, you think that thought, you feel, and you act. As it is with most things, it is a process.

Your perception will be instantaneous, it is the first thing that will happen. You will then think about us. If you feel comfortable and at ease, you may proceed, though, with caution. If you do not feel safe, you may go in another direction. Or you may not have strong feelings either way.

This image shows the thinking process from perception to acting on what we think.

No matter how you feel, your feelings will be based on what you think about me. And you will act according to how you feel. We perceive, have a thought, we think, we feel, and we act. That is the course of an action (thinking) process. Of course, this scenario would have me thinking as well, however, in a different sense and emphasis more on stimulation.

We are taught how to think and must learn to think better to decide what to think—all day every day. Even when we dream. Without reservations or hesitation, you should not think in a way that tells you things you do not need to hear. Stop the conversation in your head. Your thoughts belong to you. No one can think for you, though many will try, as you might know. Everything I say about thought, thinking, and how we perceive the world around us has just one purpose. I am not trying to tell you what to think; I am merely giving you something to think about.

It Is How You Think Sign

We are all born to think but must learn to think better while keeping in mind, none of us will think the same in the same way. You must decide the thoughts you choose to think. No one can do this for you. When we are taught—from the start—by someone who cares, we can. Thinking is what feeds the mind and tells it what to do.

To try to think for someone is not good thinking

To try to think for someone is not good thinking. You can let another decide for you. But you will not own the decision until you decide. To think is a process that must end each time you think to make way for other thoughts to think. For you cannot have more than one thought at a time as two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The power of thinking is in when you act. Before you do, you can feel happy or sad—good or bad. How you act, how I act, is the best that can be known about how we think. This is true no matter what story is told.

Perception can be reality or not

What is to you is not always what is.

You should not act on what you think someone is going to say. That is, to the extent that you have your say before they do. Wait until you know all that you should. What you think about may not be what you think it is. That is because what we perceive and think we know may not be true or accurate. Perception can be reality or not. What is to you is not always what is.

Thinking is a process. There is a start, and there is a finish each time we think a thought. Once you start, you cannot stop until you are done. What you expose your “Self” to will be the source for the thoughts that enter your mind—who and what you are around—it is then up to you what you do with them. You should not let thoughts that are not wanted stay where they do not belong—you should refuse to have anything to do with these kinds of thoughts. Let them go to your memory and let them stay there. Do not think them. They are of no value; no good can come from them.

We rule over our minds. That is, we should. Never let it tell you what to do if it is not what you choose for you. You and your mind decide what to do with your thoughts. Do not do a thing that will cause you to act in a way other than how you wish. How we act is all that can be known about who we are. There are things that others do that we prefer they did not. We do not control this. We are in charge of how we act. That is the only effect we can have on what others do.

Do not let evil thoughts take root

Thoughts will come as long as there is life. You cannot force them from your head, not even the ones that make you feel in ways you would rather not. You can pretend they are not there. They will remind you that they are. Before you act, you should be sure of what you think. What you do next depends on it. When you have good thoughts, it is more likely that good things will happen. To think good thoughts—though—is good in itself. It changes how we feel and is the mainstay of a content mind. Evil thoughts can seep in when there is fertile ground for a bad seed to be planted. Do not let evil thoughts take root.

Each moment of time lived is what all other moments rest on

Bad can follow good things. Good can follow bad. But neither thing can come from the other thing. There is a point where one stops and the other starts. You will not change what is–it is etched in time, no matter what you do. It has made its mark. It does not matter if it is good or bad, happy or sad. What you do next will be the new what is. What has happened is over. But the foundation it left is not. Each moment of time lived is what all other moments rest on.
